Next time when your phone falls in water...
Tuesday, June 10, 2008
What are the chances of getting your phone fell in a cup of water? This actually happened with me back when I had Nokia 2100. Luckily it survived, probably because it didn't have the enough technology to break :D Anyway, I found those 6 tips on My E65 Blog that will be quite useful if something similar happens to your phone, or any electronic device generally. 1. Water + Power don't mix If your mobile phone is connected to a charger, DON'T try disconnect the power! Maybe its worth trying to cut the mains power to your house first! If it is not plugged into any external power source, you should remove the battery ASAP. This is because the water conducts electricity and may short circuit your phone. 2. Remove your SIM Card Get it out of the phone. Seems obvious, but when your $500 phone has just been dunked or sprinkled, you don't think straight. 3. Get out in the sunshine Now you should aim at getting your phone as dry as possible. After you have used tissues, shaking or whatever to dry it, its best to leave it out in the sun (preferably where it wont be stolen) to dry. Be careful not to use anything that would make matters worse like blow dryers which could drive water deeper into the phone or any electronic equipment which may create static electricity. 4. Let something else have the water There are certain things like rice which likes to absorb moisture from its surroundings. It may help to leave the mobile in a sack of rice for a while, just remember that its in there or else things might get worse for your mobile. 5. Don't Rush You have to approach this operation with patience. If you try quick methods of trying to fix your phone like an industrial strength heater or something, your phone will age quickly too and it may well end up more of a brick than if you didn't intervene. if in doubt, just let it dry on its own. 6. Testing Once the phone turns on, you might smile to yourself and think the job's done, but you will need to test it extensively. If there are any problems, you may need to go back to the drying and waiting stage. Labels: Tips

Exclusive Vodafone EG: Surf Internet for FREE!!
Tuesday, May 27, 2008
I don't know if this trick works for all operators and mobile phones, but it's definetly working for me. I've tested this on N80 and N73 on two different vodafone lines with prepaid plan. I ran out of credit a couple of days ago, normally this would cause Internet and WAP Connections not to work. However, I remembered my brother telling me someday that he could logon to the Internet even though he got no credit, and the normal browser refusing to log on. I thought, ok this might have been just a coincidence, but I tried it anyway and surprisingly it worked!
I do not guarantee this method will work for you and I'm not responsible for any paid charges you get for trying this. There goes how: - Download and install Opera Mini 4.1.
- Go to settings and make sure socket connection is selected under Network.
- When asked for connection, do not choose VF Internet. Choose VF Live instead .
- Enjoy!
Somehow also, eBuddy works.. I wonder if there is a method to route this connection to PC :) :) :) Labels: Guides, Tips

HOW TO ACTIVATE? GO TO SETTINGS, GENERAL AND TURN NAVIWHEEL ON. WORKS IN GALLERY, MUSIC PLAYER AND SOME OTHER MENUS. It might get even worse when some people didn't know there actually exists dedicated gaming keys on the top of the phone.. Kill me! Why the hell did you buy this phone then?!! | A little trick |
Wednesday, January 2, 2008
Yesterday, I was running through the papers when an article took my attention: "Other uses for cell phones". I decided to take a look on the article, wondering what other uses it's hiding. So far, mobile phones have many uses other than the fact they were to make calls. They're digital cameras, mp3 players, remote controls, GPS devices, Internet browsers... and the list continues. But here is new trick that perhaps never came into your mind. Suppose your car has an electronic key(remote), and you've forgotten the key inside your car. Most probably you'll have a spare key at home. Pick up your phone, call any one at home, let them hold the spare remote right near their phone and press the unlock button. If you are close enough to the car, voila! It's unlocked ;) This might be old news for some people, but I've just learnt about it and decided to share it with everybody. Who knows, maybe it'll save them sometime.. Labels: Tips

Hate the Red button?
|
In the beginning of S60s, the red button's job was to end up calls and return to standby if pressed when a running app is in foreground without closing it. Now instead of returning to standby only, it terminates the application. This might be frustrating when pressed accidentally. That's a why a new simple application has been developed to override this issue. All what NoRedClose does is when an application is running in foreground, if you hit the red button, phone returns to standby without closing it so you can continue what you were doing using the multitasking button. I really love those simple applications that make our life easier. Application is unfortunately unsigned so you'll have to sign it yourself. Labels: Applications, Tips

N80 Slider tip
Thursday, November 22, 2007
The fellow N80 people out there who treat the slider as a piece of crap, will notice it gets loose over time. Now how can you return the slider to normal strength? Just treat it nice for the next couple of days, don't slide too fast, just nice and smooth. You'll be surprised it regains its strength. And how do I know that? Cause I treat my slider miserably! lol Labels: N80, Tips

Boosting volume of the Music Player
Friday, July 27, 2007
If you are person like me who like it loud, you'll find this tip very useful. A feature that most Nokia phones lack, is the loud volume of the music player. I mean when you're outdoors listening to music over your phone using headsets, you'll certainly notice how annoying this could be. The volume is extremely low ( with exception to the N91 and some other phones ). Now let's proceed with the tip. It's so simple and anyone could have managed to learn it alone. If you're lucky enough, you'll find an equalizer in your phone's music player. This is exactly where we will be doing some changes. Make a new preset, call it volume boost for example, and just make it look like the picture, save and notice the difference :) That's all! Told you, so simple ;) Labels: Tips

A solution for the clock problem
Friday, July 13, 2007
If you can recall the annoying clock problem on N73/N80, or if your phone is still suffering from this issue, I found a solution that could work for most of people. The problem basically is, whenever your phone is switched off, it loses time and date, so you have to reset them on each phone restart. The only solution I've found is to set the Network operator time to Auto-update. You can do this by going to menu, clock, scroll down until you find Network operator time, and change it to Auto-update. After that, whenever you restart your phone, it will prompt you to set the time and date, just hit ok without setting anything, wait for about half a minute, you'll find the time and date automatically set. This worked on my N80, firm V 5.0719.0.2 on Vodafone Egypt. I hope it works for everyone too. Labels: time problem, time reset, Tips

Deleting Stuck installer files
Tuesday, July 10, 2007
After every phone reformat, or firmware upgrade, most likely there are stuck installer files on the memory card. So as soon as the phone is switched on, The Installer is automatically launched and keeps attempting to reinstall/remove those files but fails.. every time. It says "Failed, Try installing them from the application manager". You go to the application manager, try to remove them but fail too. Now here is what you have do in order to get rid of those annoying files: - Connect you phone in mass storage mode (AKA Data Transfer), or use a memory card reader.
- Go to \private\10202dce on the phone's folder, from you PC
- You'll find the installer files (.sis) just delete them and you're done.
Next time, don't reformat your memory card ;) Labels: Tips

Six N95 Newbie Tips
Monday, May 28, 2007
Well, most of us for sure know those five tips, I myself wouldn't call them tips as they are from the very basic things that any Nokia user should know. But of course there are people who are new to the Nokia world, and I guess they deserve to learn those few basic stuff.
These tips where posted on Symbian-Freak by Apocalypso in response to a a member's request.
1st tip: It's about very useful but "hidden" feature related to composing messages, also known as fast search. For example, I have new sms message shortcut on the first position of the active standby screen, so if I want to send message to my girlfriend for example, its enough to pres joypad.. .. press key "1" once to get . (dot) in the recipient field.. . . .. compose message.. . . press green dial key and that's it, message is sent without accessing phone book and selecting the contact.
2nd tip: The strange pencil key has similar function like Shift key in windows, from the phone itself is for edit functions such selecting, cutting, pasting as well as for some additional features depending on application, features like marking, for booting up phone in safe mode and so on.. . .
3rd tip: Hold # key in idle mode to fast switch among the general and silent mode.. .
4th tip: Pres 0 key in idle mode to activate the Web Browser
5th tip: In messaging, instead of choosing, Options / Send just press the Ggreen key
6th tip:Applications and Folders in Menu are numbered in same order of the keypad. You can use numbers of keypad to navigate instead of scrolling.
And one additional tip, when browsing images and videos in gallery, you can always press the green button to open send options instead of options--> send. Labels: Guides, N95, Nokia N95, Tips
